Advent 2 Nativity Sunday

The Christmas story comes to us; to confront us with an idea of us being a ‘different way’ in the world. Who would think that the posture we take when a child is born, is the same posture that would unsettle: that that posture would undermine an empire. Who would think that the posture we take when we ‘coo’ around a baby that would enable an oppressive empire to fall?
Seems it takes strength to speak Hope, Peace, Joy and Love into the face of power.
This week, for the mysteries that are algorithms, I have seen some You-Tube ‘shorts’ of new Dad’s holding a newborn. Of Grandads holding a newborn grandchild. Of Grandfathers finding that their Grandchild is named after them. Can you imagine the emotions? What happens in those videos?
There is a breaking down: a humble overwhelming.
Tears. Trembling. Holding the most vulnerable baby: and trembling… crying.
Do we dare to try to explain why?
The honouring of human life. The humility of human honouring. The responsibility of the gift of a child.
There is something VERY important for us to understand at a DNA level/physical human place that feeds our experience of prayer and spirituality.
If God comes to us as an infant: what is the posture we assume?
And what does this posture inform us in our own Spiritual Practice?
